Transcription: The GIF format supports interlacing, which is a way of saving an image file so that it fades in gradually when displayed. Progressive JPEGs offer a similar feature that can be used with JPEG images. For both technologies, instead of saving an image one line at a time so it opens from top to bottom, image files are saved in several passes so they display in a progressively detailed fashion and appear to fade in.
